1. What strengths did you bring to your internship?
I brought commitment, responsibility, and desire of learning. Even though I never work in an office before, I was excited about the experience. I knew I would work most of the time inside of the office because it was summer. I had experiences coaching kids back at home, and I was interested in knowing the other side of being a coach. I tried to arrive and leave on time, and answer to my supervisor’s expectations for any project or activity that he gave me. I was observing my instructor, and it was a way to learn more details about his job.
2. What were your major weaknesses? What personal qualities could you have improved during your experience?
My weakness was communication. I was very quite during the internship and probably limited myself to expand my knowledge. Communication always was an obstacle for me because of the language. Besides being a quite person, I am still learning English, and sometimes it does not allow me to ask more questions, and communicate better with other people.
3. Do you feel you adequately satisfied the duties expected of you by the sponsoring organization? Why or why not?
I am satisfied because I feel that I learned a lot. However I could have been more productive if I did not have to do the same things almost every week. I had several different activities, but they were very repetitive as routine, and it sometimes was boring. However, those activities were necessary in order to help my instructor in his summer activities, so then it was part of my job as an intern.
4. Do you feel you adequately satisfied the time requirements (150 clock hours) of the internship?
Yes. I believe that it is a good period. I feel that I learned a lot in this period. I believe that if I was not working and taking two classes at the same time, probably I would be more involved with the internship and maybe I would have learned more.
5. What helpful suggestions would you make to future interns in your position?
Be patient and like to work actively with soccer. Patience is important in this position because sometimes the intern will spend days just organizing in numerical order the new soccer material. There are around 60 players who receive shorts, jerseys, jackets, pants, socks, gloves, shoes, etc. Plus these materials do not arrive in the office at the same day, and then it requires going back to the bags more than one time. Patience also is important to accomplish some computer projects that the instructor may ask the intern to do. Sometimes the instructor does not know if the intern knows how to do it or not, but he will ask for it. Patience also is important to work at the soccer camp with children. Sometimes what is planned will not happen, and it sometimes can be frustrating. However, if the intern is able to understand working with children, it can be very fun. Working actively with soccer is important for the soccer camps. Unfortunately, if the intern does not like to play soccer it will not be fun to work in the camps. They have hours of duration, and standing the entire time will be painful.
6. What did you gain from your experience? How will this experience help you when you leave Tiffin University?
I do not plan to be a soccer coach, but I do not eliminate the possibility of working with sports, mainly soccer. I believe that experience more focused in the office job; organizing camps, recruitment, and pre-season activities and materials are what I would enjoy better in my future. Being a soccer player and volunteer coach before, I already knew how work at the field is. However, these experiences outside of the fields provided me knowledge about things that I never had idea of how they work. Then, if one day I work organizing sport events, I already have an idea of it.
7. What overall grade do you feel you earned through your internship experience? ____A_____ Justify your response.
I believe that “A” is fair enough considering that I tried my best doing everything that my instructor asked me to do. I tried to learn the maximum about his job and I tried to help with some ideas during the summer activities.
